Zentangle
Artist Statement
The artwork is a zentangle of a peacock. It is entirely black and white, and has layers of different patterns all throughout. The peacock itself takes up over half of the page, and is made up of layers of different patterns in the feathers. The background is grassy and features a flowery tree. The elements used are pattern, most obviously seen in the feathers, and value. The lower section has a much higher value than the rest of the page. The artwork was created with Sharpie markers and done freehand, aside from a rough outline. I kept a similar shape and size within the feathers to create some unity. The inspiration behind this piece was the overall symbolism of peacocks. Their elegance was something I tried to keep as a focus in the artwork. My goals as an artist are to better plan out my drawings, and to use my time more efficiently. This did help me improve, since the sketches I made in advance gave me a better idea of what to do. However, my time management still didn't change. After creating this, I learned to not worry about my mistakes as much. My final product ended up fairly similar to how I had envisioned it, to my shock. It will help me with future artworks by making me more confident in what I make.
